    • THE PERIGORD CASTLE

Let me tell you my thousand-year-old story... I have seen so many things in my time. No battle has taken away my greatness. Sieges set fire to my ramparts in the Middle Ages! But nothing stopped me from reaching you. I am not a simple castle… my origins go back to time immemorial. I was one of the 6 duchies-peerages of the Kingdom of France! Duke, Governor of Guyenne and Languedoc, Viceroy of Navarre, Marshals... My family welcomed big names and crowned heads here. Like a beacon, I impose my grandeur from Périgord to Agenais... My name was that of a glorious destiny that men and artists shaped in stone ink, giving me the appearance of a giant!

The castle of the Dukes of Biron is full of architectural treasures and majestic rooms which house contemporary art exhibitions all year round. Nearly 1000 years of history have sculpted this stone giant, presenting both a medieval, Renaissance and classical castle!

Like an open book, the castle bears witness to the extraordinary talent and inspiration of its builders. Explore the ancient fortress rising to the clouds, and enjoy the Renaissance city whose surrounding countryside is a veritable garden with a southern accent.

      Events:

      • New for 2024: From New York to Biron: Thanks to a collaboration between the Dordogne Departmental Council, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Semitour Périgord, the Atelier des Fac-Similes du Périgord has just been completed, after more of a year of work, the replica of the Pietà created in the 15th century by the lords of the castle and builders of the chapel, the Gontaut-Biron brothers. The sculpture now finds its place in the heart of the stately chapel of Biron.

Stunning views, beautiful architecture. I understand the buildings were built in different times, no problem with that. I personally do not like the few modern lights and fittings and felt I walked through a lot of empty halls. I understand furnishing is difficult, however feels a bit like a venue for hire.

A definite highlight of the area. Views are breathtaking, architecture is amazing and lots of history in the many rooms and corridors. Best start early to avoid crowds as it gets packed quickly

Super château and we visit it several times through the year because there are lots of different things going on. I’ve choses several photos to illustrate this. Fantastic views and helpful staff. There is a gift shop and a coffee/drinks machine on site. There is parking available in a car park in the village but it’s hard to find so needs a parking sign as most people struggle to find it
