    • Unusual themed cottages, 15 minutes from Sarlat, the Medieval City of the Périgord Noir

Ideally located in the heart of the Périgord Noir, between Sarlat and the Vézère Valley ( Montignac, the Lascaux Caves ), the Prehistogite offers you the rental of 4 themed gîtes. Here you are immersed in the reconstruction of a prehistoric shelter... But with all modern comforts !

From the outside, almost nothing suggests the unusual atmosphere of these comfortable and unusual lodgings. Rustic wooden furniture, animal skins, plastered walls then decorated with great talent, cave paintings evoking those of the Lascaux Caves and the surrounding area... The lodgings are perfect for 2 to 4 people, they all consist of a double bed, nestled in an alcove entirely decorated with subdued lighting. Installed there, you are like in a troglodyte shelter, adorned with superb paintings of different shades of ochre, brown, black... A change of scenery guaranteed! 3 lodgings also have a sofa bed and can then accommodate 4 people. Wifi, television, bathroom, WC... Only the decoration is prehistoric, everything else is very comfortable, modern and clean.

Perfect for small families, the Préhistogite is also popular with couples. The owners offer a selection of local products, arranged into 3 menus. You can, by ordering it 24 hours in advance, have it delivered to the gîte to enjoy it quietly, without having to go out to enjoy this very special atmosphere. All the products offered come from local farms and are chosen for their taste qualities, the quantities are generous and a selection of drinks with or without alcohol will be offered to you.

For everyone's enjoyment in summer, the Préhistogite has a swimming pool, to cool off, do some laps and relax after a day of sightseeing. It is also possible to enjoy a real and large Jacuzzi / Spa (all year round). The gîtes are available for rent all year round, they are heated, some with a wood stove, to prolong the atmosphere!

Saint-Geniès is a pretty little town, with a charming village center, houses with slate roofs, a castle, restaurants and local shops. A magnificent market takes place on Sunday mornings, all year round and the night-time gourmet market is held on Wednesday evenings in season. From Saint-Geniès, it is very quick to get to Sarlat, but also to the Dordogne Valley, to visit Gardens, Castles, Charming Villages, canoeing, kayaking, gabarre rides on the Dordogne... On the other side, it is the Vézère Valley which awaits you, with its sites of visits, caves, rock shelters but also castles and villages. And why not take a day trip to the Lot or Corrèze which are also less than an hour away? For a holiday with a change of scenery, in the heart of one of the most beautiful regions of the Dordogne and the Périgord Noir, think of Préhistogite!

We used a Wonderbox gift voucher at the Saint-Génies Prehistoric Site (24). This voucher was a gift from family and friends. During our initial phone contact, the owner specifically told us not to book through the Wonderbox website, but directly with him. He added that the dinner included in our voucher was just a sort of picnic with simple pâté sandwiches. He strongly insisted on offering us several regional menus for €25 each... As we eat very little in the evening, we eventually gave in and opted for a single menu (Périgord salad) to share. The welcome was warm, the room very clean, and the owner very attentive. The breakfast was quite substantial and sufficient. And dinner matched the description well. However, the next day, we paid an additional €34: €25 for the regional menu, €3 for an extra beer (which is normal), and, most importantly, €6 for tourist tax. Honestly, I would have thought this tax was included in the package. And especially that there would be a small deduction on the meal, given that the picnic wasn't served. But since everything is settled right at the time of departure, preferably in cash, by the time we realized what had just happened, we were already on the road (because of our tight schedule) to continue our exploration of this beautiful region of the Dordogne. In short, despite a pleasant stay at this gîte, friendly service, and good products, we felt like we'd been taken for a ride. What a shame! To the owner of Préhistogîte, the walnut wine was fine... but what about the two picnics included in the package that we never saw and that you didn't deduct from the extra charges? Furthermore, there was no mention anywhere of an additional tourist tax... we didn't even receive an invoice for the extra expenses. Yes, I'm being picky because I find it dishonest to offer a service through Wonderbox and then not deliver on it. According to other reviews, I'm not the only one who finds your practice of imposing extra charges on your customers strange. I've never disputed the 5-star rating for service, accommodation, and meal quality... but the overall 3-star rating is due to this odd way you impose menu supplements. We have nothing against supplements, despite what you say, but they must be disclosed and chosen by us, not by you. And don't worry, we won't be back to complain. Once again, what a shame!

What more can I say than extraordinary to describe this place? The guesthouse is run by a very friendly owner. The service was impeccable; he welcomed us and explained how everything worked, including the jacuzzi. We had ordered meals from his menu, which he served in our room at the time we requested, as well as breakfast the next morning. The quality and quantity were truly impressive—don't hesitate to book! The guesthouses themselves are beautifully decorated, but the only thing that could be improved is the lack of outdoor lighting.
