La Coutellerie Nontronnaise, heir to immemorial know-how, is part of the French landscape of regional knives.
A Nontron is more than a style: it is a genre that we defend and which says a lot about our territory and our know-how.
In this universe, the Nontron knife is an ancestor and inspires many legends. This imagination dating back to the dawn of time is based as much on its imagined forms as on its distinctive pyrography sign.
Its history is so long that it is even difficult to date its birth. However, specialists agree that the Nontron knife is the oldest knife in France and that its origin dates back at least to the 15th century.
But who says tradition does not mean immobility. On the contrary, Coutellerie Nontronnaise, in its wooden and aluminum setting designed by Luc-Arsène Henry, has offered itself the services of recognized designers such as Olivier Gagnère, Eric Raffy, Christian Ghion.
Heirs to a long local cutlery tradition, today's cutlers still work to make the Nontron by hand with the same gestures as their predecessors. The workshop, close to the heart of the city, allows visitors to see and appreciate artisanal manufacturing.Hours of operation :
