LITTLE HISTORY OF BUGUE:
Le Bugue is located in Dordogne, in the heart of the Périgord Noir. The city is nestled downstream from the Vézère valley, so aptly named "Vallée de l'Homme". Remember that the Vézère valley is home to no less than 15 sites on the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage list. This pretty little town is built like an amphitheater, on the slope of a rich hill. Occupied since ancient times, the city has remained faithful to history and traditions. In 964, a Benedictine abbey was founded under the names of Saint Marcel and Saint Salvador to disappear in the 19th century. Today the Bugue retains only few vestiges of its past, however, you will see randomly some old houses from the streets. The most important event in the history of Bugue would be the decision to set the market day on Tuesday. Decision made 6 and a half centuries ago! And it's not a legend! It was Philippe le Bel, King of France, who decided on this day. It took effect in 1319, consecrating the Bugue as a city in its own right, gradually freeing itself from the tutelage of Limeuil. It can thus control its territory, gradually asserting its importance through the establishment of convents and forges. This quiet commercial city owes part of its fame to the physicist Jean Rey, born in Le Bugue in 1583, who discovered the Laws of Gravity 200 years before Lavoisier and invented the Thermoscope, ancestor of our modern thermometer. It was from 1860 that the Bugue took on its current appearance : construction of the bridge, of the new Saint Sulpice church, passage of the railroad… Now, the Bugue turned to one of the essential economic activities of Périgord: tourism. To discover the Village of Bournat, the Périgord Noir Aquarium, the Prehistoric Labyrinth, Jungle Golf, Big Bird (1st aerial course of France culminating at 22 meters) and the cave of Bara-Bahau.

"Market" rhymes with conviviality, pleasures and discovery.
