Medieval town of Sainte-Alvère Towns, Villages and bastides in Sainte Alvère

The region of Sainte-Alvère, historic stronghold of the Lostanges, constitutes the western tip of the Périgord Noir. It is a very hilly region whose most calcareous slopes are the area of the truffle. Until the 1960s, the region was a major producer of truffles. For almost 30 years, the Sainte-Alvère market has offered many buyers a quality truffle controlled by quality commissioners.

In order to enhance this rich heritage, an interpretation trail, accompanied by a permanent exhibition at the Sainte-Alvère tourist office, was created and introduces the general public to the discovery of the "black diamond".
