    • THE CHÂTEAU DE MONBAZILLAC A DYNAMIC, IMMERSIVE AND FUN EXPERIENCE

Overlooking the Dordogne valley, 10 minutes from Bergerac, the Château de Monbazillac estate invites visitors to discover its new tour. It deals with both the precious wines of Monbazillac and the history of the château in its Périgord context.

The 16th century castle, a listed historic monument, combines the past with modernity in its tour offers thanks to new technologies. The visit has become dynamic, collaborative, immersive and fun thanks to videos, audios, light shows, puzzles, mapping and animations.
Stroll through the exhibitions, taste the wines of Monbazillac and be surprised, amazed and seduced! It's an unforgettable journey that awaits you.

To delight the curiosity of visitors, 4 universes have been highlighted:

The castle offers a free and immersive tour that will lead the visitor from the Wars of Religion to the Revolution, in the footsteps of the Bacalan family.

      • A first exhibition
"Monbazillac, at the heart of the Protestant revolts
This first exhibition retraces part of the history of Bergerac, the past and present centre of Protestantism, and highlights the links between the wines of Monbazillac and the Protestant past of the region.

      • A second exhibition
      "The Bacalan Revolution
In this second exhibition, five fully interactive rooms plunge visitors into what life was like for the Bacalan family at the Château through a journey of experience. On 28 August 1791, shortly after the arrest of the King, at the heart of the Revolution, the Bacalan family returned to the Monbazillac estate. François-Hilaire de Bacalan and Marthe Valleton de Boissière met for lunch with their children. Through this original reconstruction of life at the château at the end of the 18th century, visitors can explore the intimacy of a family.

On leaving the Château, the park offers a place to stroll freely.

Between a sea of vines and an exceptional view of the Bergerac valley, the park offers a calm and peaceful environment that invites contemplation. This is the time to live in the present, to slow down, to stop for a bite to eat under the foliage of the restaurant terrace, to dream on the deckchairs provided, to allow photography enthusiasts to indulge their art in front of a dazzling panorama.

The Bergerac vineyards and their groves unfold like an impressionist work of art in the valley, where a river that was once the precious river route for the wine trade lies dormant.

The castle does not only offer a tourist route, it invites to an art of living and an art of being in Périgord. It is a moment for oneself, to wander around the château, to soak up the atmosphere, to feel the sun that browns the vines, or the rain that brings out that precious Botrytis cinérea.

Stunning Chateau beautifully maintained and amazing views in the direction of Bergerac. Lots of history to read inside, but a lot of the rooms bare (some strange art) and not very much to engage younger children (make your own wine label, but only 1 screen worked) The museum was very interesting in how it was laid out and taking you through the process of wine making. The wine tasting was good, given in French and English for the various visitors, the wines themselves ok, nothing we wanted to personally buy. You can eat there but they were 'full' apparently so we couldn't but found a very nice restaurant 2 min walk away (Le Semillon)

Had a fantastic time with family here today. Lots to see and experience in this beautiful place. We absolutely loved the wine tasting with Marie, she was so knowledgeable and we had a great laugh with her! Would definitely recommend!

Very interesting exposition obout wine production. Castle really beautifull from outside, located on top of hill with great views on wineyards. Inside family history and some expositions, quite spartan. Several times per day progamm of different venues. Degustation of wines, as well as nice shop of own and regional wines, local specialities. Staff very kind, all spoke also English.
