    • WELCOME TO BEYNAC CASTLE
THE MOST AUTHENTIC FORTIFIED CASTLE OF PÉRIGORD!

Standing at the top of a vertiginous cliff, dominating the village of Beynac-et-Cazenac, the Beynac Castle is a stone sentinel who has been watching for more than 9 centuries on the Dordogne.

Visiting Beynac means going through 5 centuries of French history, in the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Simon de Montfort and the Hundred Years War.

From the defensive rigor of its 12th century keep to the Renaissance staircase through the very impressive room of the States of the Baronnies of Périgord from the 15th century, the 13th century cuisine and its exceptional barbican, its exceptional state of conservation offers you an unforgettable journey. in the heart of the Middle Ages.

Between heaven and earth, from the top of its 14th century keep, the 152 meters of sheer drop on the Dordogne will offer you an unforgettable view over the magnificent Dordogne valley, panorama classified 3 stars in the Michelin Green Guide.

Visiting Beynac is to experience a dive in total immersion in the heart of history.

I had an amazing time at this castle. It felt like walking into the past. The staff were friendly at the gate, and there was a very informative audio tour that made it even more enjoyable, put the headphones in, and was immersed in history. It was hard to believe that I was in such a historic place. I felt like I would run into King Richard "The Lion Heart" at any moment. It has stunning views and very beautiful rooms that I felt like I was looking into the past. I will say there is a steep walk from town, so be aware it is obviously on top of a cliff, so just be aware of that. Unforgettable

Absolutely the highlight of my trip to the Dordogne region! The hike to the castle made me understand why the medieval people lived to the average age of 45. I contemplated throwing myself off the wall half way up. Im glad I didn't! So worth it!! Amazing history! Beautiful views! Stunning! A must see.

Off season visit, castle was closed however it’s worth going up. The view is excellent. Makes sure you have good legs… it’s quite a good walk up to the top. Also be careful on the way down, it’s steep.

The only good thing about this place are the stunning views. The entry price is exorbitant and really adds up for families with children. There are no genuine artifacts on display, only props. Very...

The castle is amazing and the whole experience is enhanced by the ability to down load a guide to your smart phone via a QR code - a near idea that worked very well. Lots to see indoors and the...
